The ButoVal (‘Bush to Value’) project, which we are coordinating, will help to restore the savannahs in Namibia.

The agricultural output of Namibia’s savannahs has shrunk by two thirds in recent decades. The reason for this is the scrub encroachment of the grasslands.

A system for the effective processing of bush biomass has now been presented. This harvesting and processing plant, which is adapted to the savannahs, is used to produce reusable biomass.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), as the funding organisation, has now reported on the project.
Find out more about how the plant works, the project goals and the next steps.

The BMBF is funding the ButoVal project with around 1.8 million euros over a project period of three years.
